Sekisui Alveo is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of cross-linked polyolefin foams. There are many reasons to opt for artificial turf, but it is important to decide in favour of the right system with the best components. Each component – the artificial grass mat, infill and the technical foam base layer – interplay and affect the surface’s performance.

The company specialises in five markets – adhesive coating, automotive, construction including artificial turf, industrial and consumer goods. The high-performance polyolefin foams are developed in close cooperation with processing companies and are tailor-made to the respective customer requirements. Sekisui Alveo also offers a comprehensive service, including test procedures in its Application Services Laboratory, as well as an efficient consultancy service.

Sekisui Alveo has collaborated closely with artificial turf manufacturers and sports clubs for more than 15 years, developing successful solutions for the technical base layer. For the latest generation of sports fields, the company has developed the Alveo Sports Layer, a base layer made of cross-linked polyolefin foam with a closed cell structure.

Alveo Sports Layer can be used for football, field hockey, golf, American football and rugby, and is built into some pitches that have received FIFA 2-Star Recommended certification. These FIFA 2-Star Recommended pitches include Heracles Stadium in Almelo, the Netherlands, and FIFA’s head office in Zurich, Switzerland.

Sekisui Alveo says the benefits of the elastic base layer include excellent ball rolling and rebounding behaviour because of energy restitution, shock absorption protecting the joints in leaps, different degrees of hardness and different colours, easy installation, low maintenance costs, high durability and long service life, improved thermal insulation meaning the pitch is playable all year round, suitability for all climates (one installation, in Tromsø, Norway, is approximately 345km from the Arctic Circle), and strong environmental credentials.
