Kansas State University breaks ground on stadium expansion
Kansas State Wildcat fans have celebrated the groundbreaking of the West Stadium Center, an expansion and renovation of Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The 250,000ft2 facility represents the centrepiece of an overall master plan for improvements to the stadium, designed with the goal of providing the best fan experience in the Big 12 and a world-class student-athlete experience.
The US$75 million project includes the complete replacement of all facilities on the west side of the stadium to include new media and broadcast facilities, new suite, club and loge seating, new concourses and concessions, and the addition of a K-State Athletics Hall of Honour. A new dining hall will cater to student-athletes, and a new Tailgate Terrace will enhance the game day experience.
The stadium’s grand limestone exterior, drawing inspiration from the existing campus facilities, will become the northwest gateway to campus and will provide a signature image for K-State Athletics and the university at large.
AECOM is providing architecture, interior design, structural engineering, and cost estimating services for the project, working in association with design architect Heery International.
Other team members include Henderson Engineers (MEP Engineering), Olsson Associates (Civil Engineering), S2O Consultants (Food Service), Ed Roether Consulting (ADA + Codes) and Acoustical Design Group (Sound, A/V, Broadcast and Scoreboard). The construction Managers are GE Johnson and Mortenson Construction.
With construction slated for completion in 2013, the entire project is to be complete with minimal disruption to game-day operations during the 2012 football and basketball seasons.

Brazil's Morumbi stadium is undergoing an extensive modernisation project that will increase the venue's flexibility, improve safety and increase spectator comfort.
