Her Majesty The Queen visits UCFB

Lancashire’s innovative higher education institution UCFB got the royal seal of approval last week, when Her Majesty The Queen stopped by for lunch.

The Queen and Prince Philip visited UCFB, which offers undergraduate degrees in football business, during their tour of Turf Moor and Burnley Football Club as part of the Jubilee Celebrations tour.

The Queen toured the unique facilities at UCFB, including the lecture theatre that overlooks the Turf Moor pitch, and had lunch with local VIPS and dignitaries, as well as Burnley FC and UCFB staff and Student Union president Jake Harrison.

The Queen was served a lunch of locally sourced ingredients including game terrine, lamb and a specially created cake commissioned for the visit. Her Majesty also unveiled a plaque marking the first year of UCFB.

“The visit was a very proud moment for all at UCFB and it was fantastic to welcome The Queen and Prince Philip and to show them around our facilities. To see The Queen unveil a plaque dedicated to our institution is certainly something special to us all and we’ll remember this day for a long time to come,” said Philip Wilson, provost and chief executive of UCFB.

“We’ve not yet been open a year but we’ve welcomed so many illustrious visitors, including Prince Charles, which is great recognition for the ground-breaking institution that we have here and the unique way in which Burnley FC is using its wonderful stadium. We are honoured that UCFB was the focal point of The Queen’s visit to Burnley.”

UCFB opened in September 2011 and offers BA (Hons) degrees in football business and finance, football business and marketing and football business and media. It currently has 60 students and is capping its 2012 intake at 200.
