England Euro 2012 training base is transformed

With less than four weeks until England kick-off their Euro 2012 campaign against France, STRI (Sports Turf Research Institute) has transformed England’s training camp pitch in Hutnik, Poland ready for the team’s imminent arrival.

STRI has ensured England will be greeted to first class training pitches when they arrive in Poland with the playing surface in Hutnik having been completely overhauled in time for the arrival of Roy Hodgson’s team.

The English FA commissioned STRI in 2011 to deliver a reconstructed pitch that was on par with the world’s best sporting venues. As well as creating a first class playing environment for the England team, STRI was also briefed to provide a legacy so that the new surface could be used and maintained by Hutnik Krakow.

“STRI delivered the training pitches for the England team in South Africa for World Cup 2010 and have now been entrusted to bring the pitch in Hutnik to a world class standard, whilst also providing a legacy so that the local teams can enjoy a top class pitch once the FA has left,” says Andy Cole, STRI Head of Stadia services.

STRI has also been appointed by UEFA to advise on the playing surfaces in Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdansk and Poznan, ahead of the European Championships. This follows international acclaim for the company’s work in the Ukraine at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev, Donbass Arena in Donetsk and The Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv.

STRI was established in 1929 to provide advice on golf course management now operates internationally in 51 countries and has advised on over 10,000 sports facilities.
