Coda helps thousands enjoy Euro 2012
For the many thousands of fans wanting to get into the UEFA Euro 2012 matches, but who have been unable to get tickets, the authorities in host countries Poland and Ukraine have provided a number of Fanzones, one of which is in the Ukrainian city of Lviv. As well as giant screen relays of the matches, the Fanzones laid on a wide variety of entertainment. With good quality audio a prerequisite for such an event, a Coda Audio PA system was specified for one of the zone’s main stages.
Located on Svobody Avenue, by the city’s opera house, the 30,375m2, free-to-enter Lviv Fanzone has been open for ten hours a day throughout Euro 2012 and has relayed all 31 matches. When matches weren’t in progress, other entertainment included live music and DJ sets, while the space was also utilised for three of the city’s annual cultural festivals.
One of Ukraine’s premier technical production companies, ArtMax Engineering, supplied the technical infrastructure for the Fanzone. The company first invested in Coda systems back in 2002 and has used them for a range of international artists including Sting, the Chemical Brothers, the Scorpions, Stanley Clarke and Motörhead. So they knew it would be the perfect choice for the variety of entertainment at the Fanzone.
A three-way symmetrical high output line array system, the LA12 is designed for large venues where high fidelity sound and outstanding intelligibility is required. Featuring three 4in neodymium planar wave drivers, four 3.5in coil neodymium mid range drivers and twin 12in neodymium ultra low distortion woofers, the LA12 provides 100° horizontal coverage and variable 0° to 8° curving. An impressive SPL capacity at very low power compression delivers one of the highest output to size/weight ratios available and exceptional sound quality.
Despite the Ukraine and Poland teams exiting Euro 2012 at the group stage, the Lviv Fanzone has still been full to capacity for the rest of the tournament, as fans from across Europe joined their Ukrainian counterparts in cheering on their own teams.
