FFR selects site for national team
The French Rugby Federation (FFR) has announced that it has selected the site for its new 82,000-seat venue. The new stadium will be situated in the commune of Evry Centre-Essonne, which is approximately 25km south of Paris.
The French national team currently plays at the Stade de France, but at a cost of E5 million to rent the stadium for every game, it is an expensive arrangement for the FFR.
It has been reported that the development will cost about E600 million and will be entirely privately funded. The chosen site is spread over 133ha (1.33km2), including the disused Ris-Orangis hippodrome. The Federation has said that the new venue will feature a retractable roof and removable pitch to cater for multi-purpose usage. The stadium will host at least 20 events each year, including five or six rugby Tests, as well as music concerts and other entertainment events.
The federation's headquarters will remain at Marcoussis, 20km west of Evry, along with the National Centre of Rugby.
The FFR has said that construction will begin in 2014 and the project is scheduled for completion in 2017.

Brazil's Morumbi stadium is undergoing an extensive modernisation project that will increase the venue's flexibility, improve safety and increase spectator comfort.
