Daktronics provides LED display for South Dakota State University

When Jackrabbits fans enter Coughlin-Alumni Stadium, they’ll be greeted by a new LED video display from Daktronics of Brookings, South Dakota, USA. Daktronics partnered with South Dakota State University (SDSU) to bring 3,100ft² of digital display space to their campus in Brookings prior to the start of football season this fall.

The 2015 season marks the final campaign for Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. Construction began in August 2014 on the Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. The east and south grandstands will be completed for the Jackrabbits’ home opener against Southern Utah on September 12, and the complete stadium will be finished in September of 2016.

“Through the partnership and vision of Daktronics, we are able to take the entire Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium project to a whole new level,” says Justin Sell, South Dakota State’s director of athletics. “This scoreboard, one of the largest in the Football Championship Subdivision, will provide an outstanding game day experience for our student athletes and fans, as well as showcase Daktronics and its abilities as the world leader in displays.”

The new display will measure approximately 31ft high by 100ft wide and will feature a 15HD pixel layout. With excellent image clarity and contrast combined with wide-angle visibility, the installation will provide a great view to every seat in the stadium. It features variable content zoning which allows it to show one large image across the entire display or also to be divided into different zones to show any combination of live video, instant replays, scoring information, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

Directly above the video display will be a fixed-digit scoreboard measuring approximately 4ft high by 100ft wide. The scoreboard will show all of the standard football statistics that fans desire at a live game such as the score, time remaining, quarter information, time outs remaining, and down and distance information.

“Our relationship with South Dakota State University dates back to the founding of Daktronics in 1968, so it is exciting to be a large part of the plan for their new stadium,” says Daktronics CEO Reece Kurtenbach.

“We have a great long-standing partnership with the university and this new video display will be a valuable aspect for an improved game day experience for the players and fans alike at all Jacks home football games. We’re waiting with great anticipation to see the impact of the video systems as well as the many other renovations that will be unveiled for this year’s season!”

In addition to the equipment installation, SDSU will receive game day content for the video display produced by Daktronics Creative Services. Daktronics will continue to provide live event and game day production services for SDSU as part of this long-term partnership.
