University of Georgia installs Sanford Stadium big screen technology

The University of Georgia has installed new video screen technology at its Sanford Stadium which will see its full debut at the start of the 2018 football season this autumn.

The west end zone display measures 52 x 100ft, which is 30% larger than its previous video board, and features a 13HD pixel layout – the same used by many professional football teams.

Fans of the Bulldogs will be treated to all-new visuals as a result of the implementation of Daktronics’ Show Control System, which enables the screen to either be used as one large canvas or divided up into multiple zones to show any combination of live video, instant replay, real-time statistics, graphics and animation, plus sponsorship messages.

In addition to this, the new technology will offer more broadcast style production with unlimited layering and on-screen fan prompts as well as new key/fill and transitions between different video sources.

“We’re incorporating updated control features from Daktronics that will launch our game-day productions to the next level,” said Mike Bilbow, assistant athletic director – digital and production, University of Georgia Athletic Association.

“Fans are going to get more of the content and transitions they’re used to seeing on television, but they will be in the stadium experiencing the games live in front of their eyes – an experience that simply can’t be replicated. We’re thrilled to be able to engage our fans on a deeper level with the new functionality.”

Daktronics has previously supplied large format LED video displays to the University of Georgia at venues used for basketball, baseball, gymnastics, soccer and other practice facilities across its campus. This latest installation enhances the game-day experience for fans at the 92,746-seat stadium by claiming to offer brighter, clearer and wider angle visibility “to every seat in the stadium”.

“We continue to value our long-standing relationship with Daktronics for our LED technology, event production and digital content,” said Josh Brooks, deputy athletic director – operations, University of Georgia.

“They have continued to provide Georgia Athletics with the highest quality of service and support, which is extremely important to us as we put on the best game-day production for our student-athletes and fans.”
