The 2018 FIFA World Cup has only just kicked off, yet European cities are already planning ahead for UEFA Euro 2020, where the soccer tournament will be held across 12 different cities.
One of those involved will be Romania, which will host three group matches and a round 16 match at the country’s most modern arena, the Ion Oblemenco Stadium.
Opened in October 2017, the €51m (US$59m), 30,983-seat soccer-specific stadium features futuristic design yet in order to meet the safety standards for the 2020 European football championships. It has undergone a complete stadium security installation to help guarantee safety during mass events.
The venue-wide solution was provided and installed by Bosch, complete with a comprehensive integrated video security system featuring 211 cameras all centrally managed on a single platform through Bosch’s Video Management System (BVMS).
The networked cameras are located at entry and exit points and areas surrounding the stadium: On the perimeter, 115 robust DINION IP bullet 5000 cameras watch central avenues leading to the stadium, while 86 discrete FLEXIDOME IP 5000 cameras monitor visitors. For added security, eight AUTODOME IP 7000 cameras – two on the stadium outside, six inside – safeguard the surroundings with onboard Intelligent Video Analytics. Intelligent Video Analytics (IVA) allows for ‘smart’ video surveillance functions such as tracking objects based on predefined criteria such as loitering, or following specific groups and individuals.
Each video stream is monitored in a central security room by stadium personnel and police during matches, with video data stored on two Bosch DIVAR IP 7000 network recording units with a 256TB capacity drive.
Adding to its security offering, the recorded video units are able to support forensic searches to enable security operators to quickly retrieve requested video data to be used as evidence.
Elsewhere, the Ion Oblemenco Stadium worked with Bosch to install a fire and safety solution comprising four fire panels and 1,500 smoke detectors.
As a result of the security upgrade, the stadium is now the first in Romania constructed in line with guidelines for the tournament and is now fully certified to host matches at not only Euro 2020 but also the Champions League, Romanian Football League, and European league matches.
