The former home of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, the Bradley Center, has had its roof dramatically imploded as part of its demolition process.
The venue, which served as home to the basketball team for 30 years, is now mostly rubble and dust following a scheduled implosion of its steel roof on January 13.
A live video feed of the event showed the dramatic moment as the explosives collapsed the roof and sent dust and debris high into the air and billowing into neighboring buildings and streets. Prior to the implosion, workers had been gutting the interior of the building, which once was capable of hosting 20,000 spectators in Downtown Milwaukee.
With the roof now collapsed, crews will be able to clear the debris and take down the arena’s remaining walls to make way for a redevelopment of the seven-acre site, details of which are yet to be confirmed.
The Milwaukee Bucks, meanwhile, moved into their new home, the Fiserv Forum, in August 2018. The new US$524m venue is a multipurpose arena designed by Populous with a capacity of 17,500.
