The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has reviewed plans for a 60,000-stadium in the emirate.

The new stadium, which will be named after the UAE city’s ruler, will be fully air-conditioned and, according to local news reports, will utilize sustainable design elements. The ground, designed by Perkins + Will, will also be fully FIFA-compliant.

At a cost of AED3bn (US$817m), the stadium is a central part of Dubai’s ‘Sports Innovation Lab’ initiative, a government-backed push to increase the emirate’s profile as a global sporting destination.
