Tottenham Hotspur has been granted a deal to extend its tenancy at London’s Wembley Stadium at a reduced capacity of 51,000. The English Premier League soccer club has been playing its home games at the iconic London venue while it waits for its new state-of-the-art stadium to be completed.
Spurs played at Wembley Stadium throughout the 2017-18 season without any capacity restriction due to a special dispensation granted by Brent council but from November 24 this will be capped.
A statement on the club’s official website said, “As a contingency measure to ensure we can stage our matches while we await certainty on the exact opening date of our new stadium, the club has reached agreement with WNSL to host any additional home games that we may have to play at Wembley Stadium.
“Whilst Wembley National Stadium Ltd (WNSL) has been able to assign us a number of full capacity games, the restriction on the number of full capacity events available to WNSL each year means that our remaining Premier League fixtures after Chelsea will be capped at 51,000 unless otherwise advised.”
It is understood that Tottenham are due to submit a planning application to increase this cap to 62,000.
