Tottenham Hotspur stadium, which failed to host its debut NFL fixture in October due to delays in construction, has been selected to host two London games in 2019.
With four regular season games scheduled to be played in the UK capital, Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium will get the chance to utilize its much-anticipated artificial retractable pitch for NFL games when the venue is finally completed.
The other two fixtures will be played at Wembley Stadium, which had to host the Oakland Raiders vs Seattle Seahawks game on October 14 following Tottenham Hotspur’s failure to complete its stadium in time.
Despite the club still not being able to confirm an opening date for the new 62,062-seat stadium, the NFL is confident it will be finished by October 2019 to host the two fixtures. The latest news to come from club confirms what many have believed, which is that the stadium will not be completed before the end of 2018.
“There isn’t an hour that goes by when I am not asked when we will be able to stage our first game at our new home,” said Daniel Levy, Tottenham Hotspur FC chairman.
“I wish I was able to confirm an exact opening date and fixture. However, in light of factors completely outside of our control, contractors missing deadlines and possible future unforeseen issues, we are naturally being cautious in respect of our timetable for our test events and official opening game.
“We have taken the decision to confirm today that all home games will be played at Wembley Stadium up to and including the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 29 December.”
