Daktronics delivers services and equipment for US Air Force Academy

After a significant video display upgrade in 2015, US Air Force Academy once again called on Daktronics for additional signage at Falcon Stadium near Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the 2016 season. Air Force also opted for a professional services package from Daktronics including creative digital content and on-site event production for football, men’s and women’s basketball, hockey and volleyball events.

“We are excited to bring our professional services, and specifically our event production solution, to such a storied institution as the Air Force Academy,” says Mark Eisenstadt, Daktronics professional services manager. “Our partnership will result in furthering the entertainment value and production quality at Falcons events beginning with the first football game this weekend.”

Creative content in the form of logo animations, matchup graphics, backgrounds and crowd prompts will be produced and delivered at the request of Air Force to meet the needs of their facilities and events.

A new end zone video display was installed to mirror the display installed in 2015. It measures 30ft high by 49ft wide, features the same 13HD pixel layout and has the same capabilities such as showing live video, instant replays, statistics, animations and sponsor messaging.

Above the new display is a freeform channel letter sign which spells out USAA (United States Automobile Association) as part of a stadium sponsorship deal. It can show color washes and other interesting graphics to bring the letters to life and highlight the sponsorship on game day. The letters measure 3.5ft high by 15ft wide.

“This is a landmark project in college football as Air Force has installed a digital audio façade and channel letters made from freeform LED elements in back-to-back years – not to mention new video displays in each end zone,” says Eric Cain, Daktronics sales representative. “The stage is set for some fantastic events and an exceptional fan experience at Falcon Stadium, and we’re proud to help them achieve their stadium goals.”
