Wooden stadium design from Zaha Hadid Architects selected for Forest Green Rovers

A design by the late Zaha Hadid has been selected for Forest Green Rovers’ proposed new 5,000-seat stadium, reports the BBC. The all-wood design beat competition from nearly 50 other architects, and will be the centerpiece of a £100m (US$124m) sports and green technology business park.

In the final round of the stadium’s design competition, Zaha Hadid Architects was chosen over a submission from Glenn Howells Architects. The winning design calls for a stadium made entirely from wood.

The English soccer side, which currently competes in the National League – the fifth tier in the country’s league pyramid system – currently plays at the New Lawn stadium in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire.
