Stack-Cup kicks off new circular economy with London Stadium and Delaware North

Eco-cup brand Stack-Cup has launched a brand-new initiative called Back2Stack which will donate any unused or unwanted cups to community groups around the UK. The aim is to reduce unnecessary waste and keep the cups in the circular economy. The first donation has come from London Stadium and Delaware North – the food service and hospitality company – to BaseballSoftballUK (BSUK) which is the development agency for baseball and softball in the United Kingdom.

London Stadium and Delaware North have donated 1,500 cups to the organization for use at Home Plate – the clubhouse at BSUK’s Farnham Park complex in Slough. Farnham Park regularly holds games, academies and coaching courses and attracts over 18,000 people per year. The cups were surplus following the recent MLB London Series 2019.

Since 2000, BSUK has provided services to the sports’ governing bodies, the British Baseball Federation and British Softball Federation with the aim of developing and increasing the levels of participation, skill and achievement in UK baseball and softball. This occurs at both junior and adult levels, from school and grassroots through domestic adult clubs up to the Great Britain national teams.

Its mission is to increase participation in baseball and softball in the UK by providing an enjoyable experience; building a quality infrastructure; improving performance; and raising the sports’ profile.

James Roles – MD at Stack-Cup – said: “As a business, eco credentials, the circular economy and sustainability are at the very heart of everything we do. Our vision for Back2Stack is for it to become an integral part of our offering. We want our clients to know that if they do have a surplus of product then they can directly help grassroots organisations that are important to them; whether they’re in sport, music or any other industry. The demand is there and our job is to help facilitate that donation.” Elliott Moore – general manager at Delaware North – commented: “Back2Stack is a fantastic initiative and we along with London Stadium were delighted to partner in the first donation. We hope these cups will help BSUK reduce its own waste and communicate the importance of sustainability to players, staff and the fans who visit Farnham Park.” Samuel Haslam – facilities and events manager at BSUK – added: “We’d like to thank both for London Stadium, Delaware North and Stack-Cup for this donation. The cups will really help us to bring down our reliance on single use plastic products, and will be an opportunity to talk to all our stakeholders about sustainability in a meaningful way.”

Stack-Cup boasts a unique globally patented handle design that negates the need for cardboard trays or plastic sleeves assisting with a zero to landfill target being achieved. Visitors to Farnham Park will be required to pay a small deposit on the first cup of the day and then return with that cup, to receive a clean one for each following drink. At the end of the day, they will have the option to either hand their cup back to a number of specific return points and recoup their deposit, or take it home as a souvenir.

Stack-Cup is built on a core belief that changing consumers’ behaviors and habits will lead to a better future for our planet. This year it has taken out millions of single use cups from the market and its ultimate is to eradicate them altogether. Stack-Cup works with many leading venues and events including the Kia Oval, the Hong Kong Sevens, the London Stadium and The O2.
