Petco Park to install Musco’s LED lighting this offseason

Petco Park, the home of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) San Diego Padres, will take a major step toward energy sustainability this offseason with the installation of Musco’s SportsCluster LED system. In partnership with Cisterra Development, installation will begin at the end of December 2015 and is scheduled to be completed in early January next year.

Petco Park opened in 2004 in the heart of downtown San Diego. The ballpark’s lighting upgrade is part of the next phase of Padres ownership’s commitment to a multi-year ballpark improvement plan, highlighted last year by the installation of the national league’s largest video board. This year, ballpark officials looked to Musco to provide a lighting system that would enhance the fan experience, as Petco Park hosts the upcoming 2016 MLB All-Star Game.

“It’s our goal to continuously improve Petco Park to ensure it is not only one of the best venues in all of sports and entertainment, but also one of the most efficient and sustainable venues,” said vice president of ballpark operations/general manager of Petco Park, Mark Guglielmo. “Musco’s LED lighting will make a noticeable difference in the guest experience while dramatically reducing our utility consumption.”

With specially designed optics, the new system will cut glare both inside and outside the ballpark, especially important given the venue’s proximity to neighboring buildings. With Musco’s system design and application expertise, the improved visibility offered by the system will enhance television broadcasts and provide a stage-like atmosphere for spectators.

“We’re excited to bring our innovative technology to the Padres,” said Jeff Rogers, vice president of Musco Lighting. “This system will bring a level of playability, energy efficiency, and entertainment elements with special effects not yet experienced in an MLB venue.”

The new system comes with an industry-leading parts and labor warranty that includes any required maintenance and is backed by a team of technicians. San Diego Gas & Electric acted as the Padres’ consultant in connection with the project.

Petco Park will join an extensive list of premier facilities that feature the company’s LED lighting solutions, including National Football League (NFL) team the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, English Premier League soccer club Arsenal FC’s Emirates Stadium in London, and the National basketball Association’s (NBA) San Antonio Spurs’ AT&T Center.
