The Charlotte 49ers have released fresh renderings of their $70 million university football stadium expansion to coincide with an announcement of their plans to break ground on the first phase on Aug. 27.
Expanding Jerry Richardson Stadium has been years in the making, and the changes will put capacity at roughly 18,100 people. The 49ers do not anticipate moving games due to stadium construction, however, some game-day experience changes will be in place.
In addition to more seating, including premium options, the expansion will focus on the western side of the stadium over the existing press box and will include a state-of-the-art tower.
“Over the next two seasons, with as little interruption to the game day experience as possible, our project team will be hard at work delivering a high-end, premium space and more seating capacity for Niner Nation,” 49ers director of athletics Mike Hill said in a statement.
