Gloucester County Cricket Club joins initiative to prevent stadium food waste

Gloucestershire County Cricket Club has teamed up with the world’s largest surplus food app, Too Good To Go, to prevent surplus food from the Bristol County Ground on match days from going to waste.

Leading the food waste movement, Too Good To Go lets people buy surplus food and drink from hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, pubs and producers to stop it from going to waste. Consumers simply download the free Too Good To Go app and search for nearby businesses with unsold produce. They then purchase a ‘Magic Bag’, collect it at an allotted time and enjoy it.

Gloucestershire CCC is the first county cricket club to partner with Too Good To Go. Its Magic Bags will contain a variety of delicious leftover food items, from freshly prepared lunch items to surplus meals from the hospitality areas, and will be available for collection from the county’s home ground in Nevil Road, Bristol after play each day. The Magic Bags will range in price from £3 to £5.28 and contain food valued at a minimum of three times their cost.

“Our partnership with Too Good To Go is an important step towards our goal of becoming the most sustainable county cricket club in England and Wales,” said Will Brown, Chief Executive of Gloucestershire CCC. “All our catering must be ordered and prepared in advance and it’s impossible to predict exactly what we will sell on any given day.  Cricket is very dependent on the weather – both in terms of how many supporters will attend and the kinds of food they will want to eat. Turning surplus stock into Magic Bags and getting them into the hands of consumers via Too Good To Go means we can ensure that any leftover food finds a good home and won’t be wasted.”

Paschalis Loucaides, UK managing director at Too Good To Go, said: “We’re delighted to have welcomed Gloucestershire County Cricket Club into our growing community of over 12,000 partner stores. This collaboration will mean that the abundance of delicious food available at their sporting ground will be enjoyed and eaten rather than wasted, and I know our app users in the area are going to love their Magic Bags. It’s great to see Gloucestershire County Cricket Club leading the way when it comes to sporting grounds being more sustainable and I’m really looking forward to seeing the impact we can make together.”
