Long-standing attendance record broken in Madrid


A 99-year-old world record tumbled on March 17 when 60,739 fans filed into Wanda Metropolitano to watch Atlético Madrid play title rivals Barcelona.

This was the biggest attendance seen at a women’s club match since a Boxing Day 1920 match between Dick, Kerr’s Ladies FC and St Helen’s Ladies FC attracted 53,000 spectators to Goodison Park in Liverpool, UK.

Wanda Metropolitano, known officially as Metropolitano Stadium, has been the home stadium of Atlético Madrid since the 2017–18 season. It has a seating capacity for 67,703.
