“It’s 12 noon in London, 7am in Philadelphia and around the world it is time for Live Aid.”
Those were the immortal words heard across round the world on July 13, 1985. The words that opened the show to the most memorable multi-stadium event ever.
Live Aid was 16 hours of live music held at Wembley Stadium in London and the JFK Stadium in Philadelphia to raise money for famine relief in Africa.
The concerts were broadcast live to more than one billion people across 110 countries and raised over £100 million.
In this short video, musicians Bob Geldof and Midge Ure and promoter Harvey Goldsmith reflect on the event.
