Sacramento Republic FC has unveiled a major redesign of its planned stadium in the Railyards district, significantly increasing its scale and ambition. The revised plans replace the previously proposed 12,000-seat open-air venue with a substantially larger, 20,000-seat stadium featuring a canopy roof.
Updated renderings reveal a striking new design in which a sweeping canopy covers all seating areas, while the pitch remains open to the sky. The structure will be supported by four prominent trusses, each contributing to a combined weight of 3,800 tons, and expected to become a defining feature of Sacramento’s skyline.

The expanded capacity will surpass that of the Golden 1 Center, which accommodates 17,600 spectators for NBA games. For major events such as concerts and festivals, the stadium will be able to host up to 27,000 attendees, according to the club.
“With this stadium, Wilton Rancheria is reclaiming our space and matching the ambition of the region,” said Jesus Tarango, chairman of Wilton Rancheria.
Wilton Rancheria acquired a majority stake in Republic FC in late 2024 and assumed responsibility for the stadium project, providing renewed momentum after earlier financing challenges. Previous plans had envisioned a smaller stadium with the option to expand by 8,000 seats to meet MLS requirements.

Republic FC managing partner Kevin Nagle said the club has long believed the region could support a larger venue. A 20,000-seat stadium with full canopy coverage, he noted, “is not an overreach.”
“It is exactly the venue Sacramento has earned, and we are proud to deliver it,” Nagle added.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the site, located in the former railyards, took place in August. Since then, crews have completed initial grading work, though foundations have yet to be poured. Construction of public infrastructure, including roads and storm drainage systems, is expected to begin by the end of April.
