Six million tickets already sold for LA28 Olympics

More than six million tickets have been sold for the LA 2028 Olympics across two sales drops, putting organizers past the halfway mark of an estimated 10.5 million total. Fans who missed out will get another chance in 2027, when the remaining 4.5 million tickets move to first-come, first-served sale, with ticket limits lifted and additional inventory added across every sport. Paralympic tickets will also go on sale in 2027, opening with a lottery similar to the initial Olympic drops.

Ticketing and hospitality are expected to generate almost $2.5 billion of LA28’s $7.1 billion budget, the second-largest revenue source behind sponsorship, underpinning organizers’ pledge to deliver a privately funded Games. “The level of enthusiasm, the interest in the Games, the excitement to commit this far out from the Games has all been really affirming,” said Allison Katz-Mayfield, LA28’s senior vice president of Games delivery revenue.

The LA Times noted that many fans were frustrated by high prices and near-instant sellouts during the first two drops. Katz-Mayfield said LA28 deliberately kept initial inventory conservative, wary of selling tickets for events where sightlines or seating hadn’t yet been finalised; more will be released as venue layouts are confirmed, meaning previously unavailable tickets may resurface in the coming months.

Newer Olympic sports such as softball, lacrosse, flag football and squash sold out fastest in the second drop, as did all tickets for Oklahoma City’s softball and canoe slalom events, both due further allocations in 2027. Organizers also sold over 700,000 of one million discounted $28 tickets across the first two drops.

LA28 runs 14–30 July 2028, hosted primarily across Los Angeles with additional venues in the wider region and two subsites in Oklahoma City. Despite launching sales earlier in its cycle than previous hosts, LA28 says it’s on pace to beat Paris 2024’s record, which had sold 5.39 million tickets by its second drop en route to 9.5 million total.
