The Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) has teamed up with marketing firm Megapro to overhaul the commercial strategy for Cape Town’s Newlands Cricket Ground, a move that could result in a new name for the historic venue.
World Sports Betting currently holds the stadium’s naming rights, giving it the WSB Newlands Cricket Ground branding — but with that deal approaching its expiry, the door is open for a fresh commercial partner.
WPCA CEO Corrie van Zyl said the partnership was designed to maximise the value of the association’s assets. “Their expertise and proven track record will help us deliver world-class sponsorship solutions that benefit our stakeholders and elevate the Western Cape as a global sports destination,” he added.
The move comes as the WPCA gears up for the 2026/2027 international season, headlined by the New Year’s Test and featuring two major Test matches against Australia and England, as well as a One Day International against Bangladesh.
To support the commercial process, global sports consultancy Futures Sport and Entertainment has been brought in to conduct an independent valuation of the WPCA’s assets, ensuring any offering taken to market is structured and data-driven.
Megapro CEO Marc Jury said the timing was ideal for brands looking to align with a marquee South African sporting property. “Through this valuation process, we are working to unlock the full commercial potential of WPCA’s assets and structure partnerships that deliver long-term value for both WPCA and its commercial partners,” he said.
