First McDonald’s naming rights deal announced for major sports stadium

McDonald’s and Chicago Fire FC have announced a landmark naming rights agreement that will see the club’s new $750 million privately funded stadium named McDonald’s Park when it opens in 2028.

Located within The 78 riverfront development in central Chicago, the venue is being positioned as a year-round sports and entertainment destination, hosting Chicago Fire home matches alongside concerts, cultural events, and community programming.

The partnership marks the first naming rights deal for a major professional sports stadium in the United States for McDonald’s. As part of the agreement, the company will help shape the fan experience throughout the venue, including the creation of a flagship McDonald’s restaurant inside the stadium precinct, branded activations, immersive fan experiences, and matchday entertainment.

McDonald’s Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski said the project would become more than just a sports venue.

“Together, we are creating more than a stadium,” he said. “We are building a place that serves up joy, brings together community, delivers impact, and is designed to serve generations to come.”

Chicago Fire owner and chairman Joe Mansueto said the partnership reflected the club’s long-term commitment to the city.

“As we take the next step on our journey to build a world-class club, our commitment to Chicago is at the centre of everything we do,” Mansueto said.

“That’s why McDonald’s is the perfect partner — an iconic global brand with deep Chicago roots and shared values in supporting our community. McDonald’s Park will be the stadium that Chicago deserves.”

Beyond the stadium naming rights, the partnership also includes a major investment in youth football development across Chicago.

Starting in 2027, McDonald’s will become the presenting partner of the Chicago Fire Foundation’s P.L.A.Y.S. (Participate, Learn, Achieve, Youth, Soccer) programme, supporting an expanded rollout of free football initiatives across Chicago Public Schools, particularly at elementary schools with limited access to the sport.
