While competitive matches won’t be played on the pitch until the 2025–26 season kicks off, FC Barcelona has completed installation of the new turf at Spotify Camp Nou, according to Mundo Deportivo. The milestone marks significant progress as renovation of the iconic stadium nears its final stages.
The club aims to reopen the stadium to fans in September, and laying the pitch now is a crucial step to ensure optimal playing conditions by the time football returns to the venue.
Barcelona initially planned to return to Camp Nou by the end of 2024, but ongoing construction delays forced that timeline to shift. Hopes of hosting the final El Clásico of the current season on May 11 at the revamped ground were ultimately abandoned.
Despite the setbacks, recent developments signal positive momentum, with the pitch now fully installed.
With the grass in place, key systems such as drainage, ventilation, and climate control can now be tested and calibrated to ensure full functionality by reopening. This early installation also provides time to detect and address any unforeseen issues before matches resume.
Although Barcelona’s 2025–26 campaign will begin in August, the delay in stadium readiness means the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy match will not be held at Camp Nou this year. Instead, the club plans to request that La Liga schedule its early-season fixtures as away games until the stadium is fully operational.
The transformation of Camp Nou continues to progress, bringing the return of the first team to their historic home ever closer.
