SIS Group and Flexgrass have co-developed a biopolymer, BioGrass, which is made from a biodegradable biopolymer, so it is a fully circular product designed to work along with real grass.
It can be produced through two systems – stitched or as a carpet. The stitched system injects BioGrass fibres in with real grass, while the carpet system works by combining a BioGrass mesh though which natural grass grows.
French football side AS Monaco has stitched a hybrid stadium pitch with this new biopolymer using patented SISGrass machines. BioGrass is TÜV certified, which the official Austrian process to test, inspect, and certify technologies, products, and systems.
Fabio Travini, joint CEO of FlexGrass, said, “We believe BioGrass, the first hybrid surface plastic free, is a great revolution for our industry. BioGrass is composed of natural polymers, it is compostable and returns to nature.”
