Manchester City have dismissed a bar worker who was spotted wearing a Manchester United shirt while serving drinks during Sunday’s derby at the Etihad Stadium.
The incident came to light after a post on X (formerly Twitter) from the account @Mataniels showed the staff member handing over a pint while wearing a black top with United’s crest clearly visible. The caption read: “Absolute joke @ManCity – letting one of the bar staff in block 315 wear a United shirt on Derby Day #mcfc.”
City’s official fan support account quickly responded: “Thank you for making us aware of this. We can confirm that this individual has now been removed from their position.”
The @Mataniels account has since disappeared, possibly after backlash from some users who criticised the decision to single out the worker. Manchester City declined to comment further on the matter.
On the pitch, City cruised to victory in the 197th Manchester derby, beating United 3-0 thanks to goals from Phil Foden and a brace from Erling Haaland.
