On the occasion of Italy’s Nitto ATP tennis finals, design titan Pininfarina is presenting two experiential architecture projects developed in collaboration with the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation.
Two distinct projects, a single vision: to enrich the Nitto ATP Finals experience by strengthening the relationship between space, people, and the spectacle through a design language that combines elegance, innovation, and performance.
The players’ entrance, Skywalk design by Pininfarina, transforms their arrival into a spectacular gesture of great symbolic significance, while Stargate design by Pininfarina, in Piazza San Carlo, becomes a new iconic feature of the Nitto ATP Finals, helping to bring the tournament’s atmosphere to the heart of the city and inviting the public to enjoy a shared and memorable experience.
“We are proud to collaborate with the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation on a project that authentically embodies the values we share: the pursuit of excellence, innovation, a passion for sports, and the desire to create meaningful and accessible experiences for people,” says Paolo Dellachà, CEO of Pininfarina.
At the heart of the project is a 60-meter-long walkway that, during the Nitto ATP Finals, will connect the Inalpi Arena to the Fan Village and the Red Bull Energy Station, transforming a functional structure into a visually striking experience.
Designed to provide athletes with a dedicated, secure, and private connection between the various areas of the Nitto ATP Finals, the structure also redefines the relationship between the champions and the audience. Suspended six meters above the ground, the players traverse a space that highlights their entrance onto the court, offering spectators a privileged vantage point and a new opportunity to connect with the tournament’s stars.
The walkway’s identity is defined by its large sail – over 440 square meters of light, fluid surfaces that envelop the structure with a dynamic and recognizable form. Their mirror-like pattern evokes the rhythm and trajectory of a tennis rally, creating a composition that balances tension and harmony, where the two ends interact in a continuous formal relationship.
The experience is further enhanced by a system of illuminated modules that accompany the path with a sequence of integrated light elements, transforming the walkway into a true visual narrative and accentuating the structure’s iconic character.
In line with Pininfarina’s design approach, the walkway was developed according to the principles of efficiency, sustainability, and reversibility. Entirely prefabricated off-site and composed of modular elements, it can be assembled and subsequently removed in an extremely short amount of time, minimizing the impact on the urban area and ensuring full usability of the public space.
With Stargate, the identity of the Nitto ATP Finals extends into the heart of Turin, transforming Piazza San Carlo into a symbolic meeting place for the city, the athletes, and the public. More than just an installation, Stargate design by Pininfarina reimagines the entrance to the tournament as a moment of profound symbolic significance, helping to enrich the Nitto ATP Finals experience even beyond the confines of the Inalpi Arena.
Situated at the heart of the city’s activities during the Nitto ATP Finals, the installation becomes one of the main points of contact with the tournament’s world, welcoming the champions and guiding the public through a shared experience that brings the historic center to life for the entire duration of the event.
Its most iconic moment coincides with the athletes’ walk down the Blue Carpet at the Nitto ATP Finals. As they pass through Stargate, the players transform a simple walk into an entrance ritual, amplifying the anticipation and strengthening the connection between the athletes, the city, and the spectators.
