SURJ Sports Investment is exploring partnerships with major US operators as it looks to accelerate the development of arenas, stadiums and live events across Saudi Arabia.
According to reports, the Public Investment Fund-backed organisation is in discussions to form a joint venture, potentially named Radia, with Oak View Group and Live Nation. The proposed venture would focus on operating venues and promoting both music and sporting events in the kingdom, with an emphasis on reaching international audiences.
The collaboration could see global promotion of concerts staged in Saudi Arabia, alongside involvement in sports tournaments hosted in the country.
Launched in 2023, SURJ was created to drive investment into sport and its supporting infrastructure, with the aim of strengthening the domestic ecosystem while boosting international growth across Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East. A key part of its strategy is to invest not only in sports properties, but also in the systems and experiences that increase fan engagement.
The move comes as Saudi Arabia prepares to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, with major infrastructure projects already under way. Plans include the construction of 11 new stadiums and the refurbishment of four existing venues.
At the centre of these developments is the proposed King Salman International Stadium in Riyadh, which is expected to seat more than 90,000 spectators. Designed as a multi-purpose venue, it is set to play a key role in the tournament and broader entertainment landscape, with ambitions to host major global events.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sport Saudi Arabia has already invited contractors to submit bids for early-stage work on the project, which forms part of the wider King Abdulaziz Park development. Current plans suggest the stadium could host both the opening match and final of the World Cup.
Alongside its sporting ambitions, the kingdom is investing heavily in entertainment infrastructure. This includes a $1.4 billion Royal Opera House and a new 20,000-seat arena in Diriyah, a UNESCO World Heritage site undergoing extensive redevelopment.
